YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa
On July 28, 2014, United States President Barack Obama announced the creation of four Regional Leadership Centers in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa as part of his Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).

Beginning 2015, these Centers will improve the availability and quality of leadership training programs and professional development opportunities for young African leaders.

The YALI Regional Leadership Center (RLC) East Africa, located at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, will serve 14 countries in East and Central Africa.

The Center is overseen by Deloitte East Africa and is supported by a growing number of African and international public and private partners.

It is a public-private partnership, capitalizing on the energy and dynamism of the private sector, the knowledge of African and American institutions, and the programmatic and educational resources of the U.S. Government.

The Center will focus on engaging young East African leaders from a wide range of organizations and backgrounds and with a diversity of experiences.

We are seeking to recruit a Monitoring and Evaluation Director for YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa. This position will report to the RLC’s Chief of Party, focusing on the following areas:


  • Leading the design and development of the RLC’s Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) framework.
  • Working closely with the COP in establishing proper internal systems for project monitoring, quality assurance and evaluation.
  • Ensure proper monitoring and evaluation is carried out at the impact, results, and activities levels, as well as tracking the F-indicators required by USAID
  • Lead in the design of the RLC’s performance monitoring and evaluation effort;
  • Oversee the management of Performance Monitoring Plan (PMP) indicator;
  • Conduct field audits and ongoing monitoring of RLC initiatives;
  • Responsible for successful implementation of the activities contained within the work plan.
  • Oversee publication of the quarterly “Impact Newsletter” highlighting success stories and results.

Deloitte Director Job Responsibilities
  • Oversee management of accurate and complete PMP database including collecting, inputting and evaluating information;
  • Ensure timely collection of monitoring and evaluation information;
  • Oversee internal communication on M&E progress and results
  • Report to the COP and the client concerning progress toward PMP targets
  • Train the RLC staff on data collection and the importance of the M&E effort;
  • Prepare quarterly M&E reports for the RLC administrative team, board and client.
  • Provide ad-hoc reports and evidence-supported analysis based upon the COPs needs; and
  • Provide guidance and meaningful opportunities for staff members that support the M&E area.

Qualifications for Director Jobs in Kenya
  • Master’s degree
  • A Minimum of 8 years working experience of which 3 should be at managerial level.
  • At least 5 years’ experience as a senior M&E officer in donor funded initiatives.
  • 3 years of experience in monitoring and evaluation on a USAID- funded initiative will be an added advantage;
  • At least 2 years of work in East Africa or sub-Saharan Africa in an M&E Specialist role;
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the RLC and with the COP, other constituents and the public.
  • Demonstrated ability to strategize, implement and build M&E programs and activities.
  • Extensive experience with M&E database software.
  • Knowledge, skills and experience in key M&E standard tools such as performance benchmarking measures, indicators and reports;
  • Strong quantitative and qualitative analytical skills, including statistical analysis;
  • Proven writing skills combined with the ability to produce quality data and reports within a tight time-frame.
  • Training skills, including facilitation, mentoring and coaching;
  • Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a team environment to achieve institutional goals;
  • High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information; and
  • Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • The position is on a four year fixed-contract subject to satisfactory performance and continued funding from USAID.
