YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa
On July 28, 2014, United States President Barack Obama announced the creation of four Regional Leadership Centers in Ghana, Kenya, Senegal, and South Africa as part of his Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI).
Beginning 2015, these Centers will improve the availability and quality of leadership training programs and professional development opportunities for young African leaders.
The YALI Regional Leadership Center (RLC) East Africa, located at Kenyatta University in Nairobi, will serve 14 countries in East and Central Africa.
The Center is overseen by Deloitte East Africa and is supported by a growing number of African and international public and private partners.
It is a public-private partnership, capitalizing on the energy and dynamism of the private sector, the knowledge of African and American institutions, and the programmatic and educational resources of the U.S. Government.
The Center will focus on engaging young East African leaders from a wide range of organizations and backgrounds and with a diversity of experiences.
We are seeking to recruit an Admissions Manager for YALI Regional Leadership Center East Africa. This position will report to the RLC’s Director of Admissions, focusing on the following areas:
- Support the recruitment and organization of cohorts, ensure transparency and fairness in the RLC participant selection process.
- Oversee and manage messaging via the RLC website, publications, and social media in collaboration with the
- Communications Director to market the Program to potential participants.
- Analyze trends and prepare reports regarding Admissions activities, focus on key data sets and report deliverables as requested by RLC management team.
- Support the Admissions Committee and the RLC’s academic and administrative leadership.
- Plan and accomplish goals, perform a variety of tasks, and lead/direct the work of others based on experience and judgement.
- A certain degree of creativity and latitude is expected.
- Deloitte Admissions Manager Job Responsibilities
- Assist to implement and promote alumni programs that support the RLC’s strategic plan as well as the goals of the program; develop and submit for approval annual strategic and operating plans;
- Oversee management of accurate and complete Admissions database records; capture contact, biographical and career information of RLC participants, design and publish a Participant Directory (in conjunction with the communications team), coordinate admissions-related events, develop and update the admissions database, and develop and maintain all admissions records;
- Facilitate and oversee social media communications and web pages, and implement other messaging as outlined by the Director of Admissions;
- Maintain organizational calendar of Admissions-related events and activities;
- support the establishment of relationships within the region and internationally that will enhance the goal of admissions;
- Educate potential class members on the benefits of the RLC’s courses and programs;
- Work with the Partnership Manager to implement and manage career networking services (internships, mentorships, job placement) for students and A/A;
- Collaborate closely with colleagues in developing a database of potential participants and communicate admissions-related activities via written contact reports filed in appropriate constituent database software;
- Take responsibility for managing the admissions budget and help identify ways to tailor programs and messaging to available resources and monitoring expense against that budget;
- Prepare monthly admissions reports for the RLC administrative team, board and client;
- Provide ad-hoc reports and evidence-supported analysis based upon the Director of Admissions needs;
- Provide guidance and meaningful opportunities for volunteers that support the admissions area.
- Bachelor’s degree in a Human Resource Management, Marketing or any other Business related field;
- At least 6 years of working experience, 3 of which should be in the admissions role;
- At least 3 years experience in Human Resources or Marketing;
- At least 2 years of work in East Africa or sub-Saharan Africa is preferred;
- Demonstrated accomplishment in fostering productive relationships with volunteers and developing volunteer leadership.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Ability to work collaboratively with colleagues throughout the RLC and with the Director of Admissions, other constituents and the public;
- Demonstrated ability to strategize, implement and build admissions programs and activities;
- Extensive experience with constituent database software;
- Demonstrably strong writing, planning and organizational skills;
- Flexibility and initiative, as well as the ability to work independently, combined with the skills for thriving in a
- team environment to achieve institutional goals;
- High professional and ethical standards for handling confidential information;
- Willingness to travel and work evenings and weekends as needed.
This position is on a four (4) year fixed- term contract subject to satisfactory performance and continued funding from USAID.
