Vacancy: Food Security and Livelihoods Coordinator
Location: Western Bahr el Ghazal State, South Sudan
Background: Hope Agency for Relief and Development (HARD) is one of the South Sudanese leading National NGOs with operations in Western and Northern Bahr el Ghazal states.
We work with diverse partners such as; EU, World Bank, DFID, Christian Aid, Cordaid, Caritas and Trocaire to deliver the much-needed humanitarian and development support to communities in South Sudan.
The objective of the project is to ‘increase agricultural production and incomes and improved nutrition of smallholder farmers in Wau County, Western Bahr el Ghazal State’.
The project will be funded by BMZ-Government of Federal Republic of Germany.

Location of the Position: Raja County with occasional visits to Wau County, Western Bahr el Ghazal state.
Start Date: As soon as the proposal is approved by BMZ-Government of Federal Republic of Germany (possibly by May 31, 2015).
Reporting: The FSL coordinator will report technically to the Food Security Programme Manager and administratively to the Executive Director.
Objective of the position: The Project Coordinator, as a member of management team is expected to contribute to the overall expansion and effectiveness of food security programmes according to the organisation’s strategic plan.
NGO Food Security Coordinator Specific Duties
- Oversee the development and implementation of activity plans according the programme results framework;
- Ensure participation of the community in the implementation of programme through appropriate mechanisms;
- Oversee the day-to-day implementation of project activities for smooth running of the project;
- Provide technical leadership, training and mentorship to the project team and ensure project quality is assured; Food Security and Livelihoods Coordinator, Western Bahr el Ghazal State, South Sudan.
- Agree on clear performance benchmarks for all staff, and ensure all team members have appropriately set objectives, and that performance reviews are undertaken in a timely manner;
- Ensure that County Agriculture Departments (CADs) of Wau and Raja Counties are effectively involved in the implementation of the project;
- Develop and implement simple and robust monitoring and evaluation system (M&E plan) to track implementation of activities and assess project performance;
- Make frequent visits to project implementation sites to monitor implementation of project activities;
- Liaise with JIA to ensure synchrony and synergies between the two components of the programme;
- Manage the project budget under the direction of the Programme Manager, including regular monitoring of expenditure against budget, in accordance with donor’s and HARD’s financial procedures and guidelines;
- Develop clear work and expenditure plans and ensure that the programme is implemented within the agreed/approved budget and timeframe;
- Attend coordination meetings, coordinate with Governments departments and other agencies working in the area and when necessary make presentations on the project;
- Prepare both internal reports to the Programme Manager and external reports as may be required by our partners;
Qualifications for the NGO Job in Kenya
- A minimum of Bachelors Degree in the fields of; Agriculture, Agricultural Economics, Agricultural Extension or any other related field.
- A minimum of 5 years experience in managing agricultural rural programmes.
- High proficiency in computer application especially in Microsoft Office suite and Email.
- Experience in South Sudan will be an added advantage.
