Job Purpose
The Fiber Optics Technician is a member of a technical team producing advanced fiber-optics systems.
Fiber Optics Technician Job Responsibilities
- Work in fiber optics lab under the guidance of scientist or engineer.
- Experience and knowledge using Fiber Optic Scope.
- Assemble optical fiber lasers and amplifiers
- Splice optical fibers, optimize splicing procedures of specialty fibers
- Test fiber-optic components and systems and document results.
- Develop standards and specifications for splice drawings and prepare drawing per the specifications.
- Installation and dressing of fiber optic cables (vertical/horizontal).
- Serve as a resource to the internal staff on matters concerning splicing practices and procedures.
- Develop splicing diagrams and designs to facilitate network architecture.
- Provide management with detailed reports of field splicing activity.
- Maintain fiber asset inventory and splicing records.
- Certificate of technician or an associate degree in optics/laser/electro-optics technology.
- Minimum 2 years’ experience in fiber optics lasers, optical and electronic training.
- Ability to handle optical fibers and delicate optical components
- Good manual dexterity and vision
- Carry out fiber splicing, component and system level assembly
- Ability to use electronic and optical equipment
- Ability to read and follow written instructions and schematics
- Data entry skills
- Good communication skills and team interaction
- Must be able to work for long hours sometimes extending into the night.
